A STUDENT has died three weeks after she was allegedly targeted by up to 10 women in a racist attack.

Egyptian Mariam Moustafa, 18, was left in a coma after being repeatedly punched as she waited for a bus.

Her family believe some of the attackers had previously set upon her.

Her mother Nisreen posted a video on social media, saying: “Four months ago, two of the same 10 women abused my daughter in the street.

“We went to the police and issued a complaint but nothing happened.”

Nisreen claims that on February 20 the women saw her daughter again in Nottingham city centre.

She told Cairo-based magazine Egypt Today: “She managed to run towards one of the buses but they went after her and started to beat her again. Just one man tried to defend her.” Mariam was reportedly punched several times before being dragged 20 yards. She is said to have suffered further verbal assaults after boarding a bus.

She went to hospital, was discharged but later rushed back with a suspected brain bleed and placed into a coma.

A girl of 17 was arrested on suspicion of GBH and released on bail. Police say they have an open mind but there is currently no information to suggest the attack was racist.

Mariam’s family have released photographs of her in a coma in hospital.

Uncle Amr El Hariry, 46, claims two girls attacked Mariam and her sister Malak, 16, five months ago, breaking Malak’s leg. The family also says the bus driver refused to stop her attackers boarding and that she was discharged from hospital against her will.
