Robot arm to help the deaf
SCIENTISTS created a robotic arm that translates speech into sign language gestures for deaf people.
The device, called Aslan, is made with a 3D printer using 25 pieces of plastic, and costs £400 to produce.
Developed by Belgian students, it can interpret multiple languages and fit into a bag for everyday use.
Erwin Smet, 57, of Antwerp University, said: “Aslan can reduce [the] barrier between the deaf community and the world. This can change lives.”
