HAMMERS STEWARDS FACED 150 VIOLENT INCIDENTS
Shock details revealed
SHOCKING details of crowd violence at West Ham’s game with Burnley have been revealed by the Mayor of London.
Sadiq Khan said that overstretched stewards were faced with 150 separate incidents, including 40 assaults and 26 attempts to invade the pitch (Mark Noble wrestles fan, above).
The Hammers have so
far issued five lifetime bans to supporters involved in the trouble, which included four separate pitch invasions, co-chairman David Sullivan being hit by a coin, and captain Noble’s intervention.
Khan (right) is due to meet West Ham vice-chair Karren Brady early next week to discuss security arrangements at the London Stadium.
Relations between the Hammers board, stadium owners E20, and the London Legacy Development Corporation have been strained over matchday security. Earlier this week, the Mayor told West Ham to “get a grip” and take responsibility for the behaviour of their fans at their £2.5million-a-year rented home.
At his weekly Question Time at City Hall, Khan said: “The scenes were a disgrace and mindless hooliganism. I have called on those that run West Ham to build on, and focus on, building better relations.
“The overwhelming majority of West Ham fans, and the taxpayer, deserve much better.”
