POVETKIN OFFERED WHYTE FIGHT AFTER BRUTAL PRICE KO
EDDIE HEARN has offered Alexander Povetkin a June fight with Dillian Whyte following his win against David Price. Povetkin stopped Price in five rounds with a brutal TKO, which resulted in the Scouser going to hospital as a precaution to be checked over.
Povetkin will now become Anthony Joshua’s WBA mandatory challenger and promoter Hearn hopes to stall him by offering the Russian a pay day against Whyte.
Hearn said: “He will be the mandatory for AJ. I’ve made him an offer to fight another fighter in June if he wants it – Dillian Whyte.”
Whyte was ringside and said: “I’ll fight him next. Let’s do it.”
Price, 34, managed to get to his feet, but there are question marks over whether the 2008 Olympic bronze medallist will carry on after the fifth stoppage of his career.
Anthony Crolla has no such concerns and he is eyeing up another lightweight world title shot after breezing past game Mexican Edson Ramirez.
Crolla impressed, despite suffering a cut on his right eyelid in a clash of heads in the third, to claim a comfortable unanimous points decision.
