BREN ONE WIN FROM THE TITLE

-

CELTIC moved to within one victory of a seventh successive title with a 2-1 win over 10-man Hamilton.

Boss Brendan Rodgers rested several stars with one eye on the synthetic surface at New Douglas Park and the other on next weekend’s Scottish Cup semi-final against Rangers at Hampden.

Callum McGregor (above) put Celtic ahead after three minutes only for Rakish Bingham to equalise.

But Accies shot themselves in the foot when Darren Lyon was sent off for two bookable fouls on Kieran Tierney.

Celtic’s half-time sub Leigh Griffiths scored the winner with his first touch.

Rodgers said: “Once we got the second goal, as a spectacle it wasn’t the most entertaining for supporters.

“But it was important for us to get the three points today and we’re nearly there.

“I always say on the AstroTurf pitches it’s very, very difficult to get fast flowing football.”

Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes suggested that some of his players might have put their places in doubt for their semi-final against Motherwell after a tame 2-0 surrender to Hearts at Tynecastle.

Steven Naismith and David Milinkovic punished the Dons.

McInnes said: “On today, there’s not too many who have cemented their place.

“We were playing nothing football, just playing in around them without trying to get beyond them and hurt them.”

Rangers took advantage to move into second place with an easy 4-0 victory over Dundee at Ibrox.

Kenny Miller opened the scoring before Alfredo Morelos, Jamie Murphy and Daniel Candeias struck after the interval.
