School place chances rise

MORE par­ents will get a child into their first-choice pri­mary, a sur­vey found.

As school places were handed out today, it emerged Northum­ber­land had the top rate, 97.3%, Hartle­pool was at 97% and Cum­bria at 96.5%.

Lon­don had the low­est rates, fig­ures given to the Press As­so­ci­a­tion from 74 of 152 au­thor­i­ties showed.

Kens­ing­ton and Chelsea was at 68.3% and Cam­den’s rate was 76.6%.

Heads’ union NAHT said get­ting the right place “can feel like a bat­tle”.
