Racism-row quagmire
A problem I’ve witnessed in the latest anti-Semitism row is the discussion over distinguishing between legitimate criticism of Israel, and anti-Semitism.
I’ve seen anti-Semites hide behind claims that they are merely criticising Israel. I’ve seen ‘non-antiSemites’ criticising Israel legitimately and I’ve also seen them criticising Israel in such a way that it ends up being anti-Semitic.
There is definitely a problem with the issue in the UK and if one is to address it, one also needs to address the parallel issue of the problem of legitimately criticising Islamic terrorism without being labelled Islamophobic.
The lack of honest debate on both of these issues has polarised society. Michelle Crofton, North London
