That’s better

Daily Mirror - - NEWS -

LIMITING fixed-odds betting terminals to £2 stakes is a victory for decency when addicted gamblers were being fleeced by up to £100 every 20 seconds.

The machines were sucking the life blood as well as money out of punters with the betting industry grabbing a colossal £1.8billion in revenue from hooked players.

The social and financial cost of these terminals was unsustainable. But instead of threatening to close shops and sack staff, big bookmakers should be imaginative – promoting responsible gambling and making bookies more attractive to visit.
