The Choir’s Gareth Malone has told how he decided to take a career break because he didn’t want to “crack up”. The BBC star, who starts a UK tour on May 27, says he saw a campaign to get men talking about their mental health just as he was feeling overwhelmed himself.
Gareth, 42, says: “I took a break because I felt I needed it. I saw it coming – if I carry on working at this level I’m going to stop enjoying it.
“It’s such a privilege to do this sort of job. I don’t want to crack up.”
The dad of two feels great now, and says: “Touring, being in front of an audience, is my favourite thing to do.”
