QI’m getting a bit unsteady on my feet and I’m scared I will fall and break a bone. What precautions can I take?

AThere are lots of things you can do both to keep yourself steady and to avoid falls.

Staying steady is part of the battle, and although falling is common in older age and may seem like something you can’t control, research has shown “fall risk” can be reduced.

Here are a few suggestions which may make a difference to you. Firstly, some medications cause unsteadiness. If you’re taking a number of different tablets, ask yyour GP or a ppharmacist to review them. Secondly, avoid clothes that are llong and trailing anand avoid getting ththirsty too as dehdehydration can cause a greater risk of falling. Also make sure you eat a varied diet rich in vitamin D containing foods like egg and oily fish. And walk every day. Strong legs prevent falls.
