Viewers complain over shock violent killing on Emmerdale

OFCOM received 74 complaints after Emmerdale’s Lachlan White bludgeoned Gerry Roberts to death in Thursday night’s double bill.

Viewers were shocked when evil Lachlan (played by Thomas Atkinson) bashed his pal Gerry (Shaun Thomas) over the head with a huge stone.

While the impact was not shown, soap fans saw Gerry MURDERED Gerry Roberts in soap beneath a pile of rubble. Shaun told of his shock that Gerry was to die. He said: “I was meant to come for two episodes and ended up staying a year and a half. To be told it would be coming to an end was pretty upsetting.” This month the regulator dismissed complaints over a Coronation Street episode in which Josh Tucker (Ryan Clayton) spiked David Platt’s (Jack P Shepherd) drink before sexually assaulting him.
