BEST ROYAL WEDDING EVER: WHAT NEXT FOR COUPLE But lovebirds set on carrying out long list of royal duties

NEWLYWEDS Harry and Meghan won’t be letting their hectic schedule distract from the most important job of all – trying for a much-wanted baby.

They have put off their honeymoon and are planning just a brief “mini-moon” in the Republic of Ireland, some time in June or July.

They are committed to Meghan’s vow of “hitting the ground running” with an ambitious round of global engagements.

But nobody is in any doubt the couple’s first priority will be producing a little cousin for Charlotte, George and Louis.

Neither could hide their glee during their wedding ceremony, as the Dean of Windsor spoke of marriage as “the foundation of family life in which children are born and nurtured”.

As the Dean uttered the word “children”, Harry turned to Meghan and the pair exchanged the warmest look seen during the service, which was noted by millions of viewers.

A royal source said: “Harry was bursting with pride the whole ceremony, but it was that reaction that caught the eye of those who know him best.

“It was beautiful and a subtle nod to the hope they both have that they will become parents as soon as possible.”

The Mirror this month told how Harry and Meghan hope to announce a pregnancy within a year of getting married.

Friends of the prince and the former US actress revealed how they are said to be very excited about starting a family.

And on a visit to a science park in Northern Ireland in March, Meghan gestured at baby equipment, saying: “I’m sure at one point we’ll need the whole thing.”

The Queen is said to be delighted at how the public has taken the latest royal couple to their hearts and courtiers have devised plans to use the modern “power couple” as super-envoys across the world.

The Mirror understands they will undertake a Commonwealth tour in October, taking in Australia – where Harry will open his Invictus Games – and New Zealand, as well as the islands of Tonga and Fiji.

But, touchingly, their first official engagement as husband and wife will be tomorrow, in honour of Prince Charles’s 70th birthday.

Meghan is said to have been overwhelmed with the Prince’s dedication to making both her and her mother feel at ease during the lead up to the wedding.

Especially his act of walking her up the aisle on Saturday.

Kensington Palace announced the newlyweds will attend the Buckingham Palace garden party to celebrate the heir to the throne’s milestone birthday – which falls in

November – by recognising Charles’ patronages and military affiliations as well as others involved in the heir to the throne’s charities.

The newly appointed Duke and Duchess of Sussex will then commit to a series of top level meetings with Royal advisers to set out their plan for the coming year.

The British Government, through the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, also hopes to cement ties with old friends and help smooth the path for trade.

The couple – along with Charles and Camilla and William and Kate – are believed to relish their role of playing a key part in the UK’s “soft power” diplomacy.

But sources have also revealed there are secret plans for some alone time on the “mini-moon” celebration in Ireland.

The trip could have added significance during a time of heightened tensions following Brexit talks and the UK’s relationship with Europe.

As well as their duchy of Sussex title, Harry and Meghan have been appointed Baron and Baroness of Kilkeel in Northern Ireland.

For Harry, it will be his first time in the Republic, but Meghan has already visited as an ambassador for the One Young World summit in 2014.

The itinerary for their trip in June or July is only in the early stages but it is believed they will stay for just one night.

As for the choice of destination for their official honeymoon, Namibia and Botswana – which both offer stunning wildlife and breathtaking scenery – could be top of the list.

Bookmakers Ladbrokes have seen a flurry of betting for the couple’s honeymoon destination with Namibia emerging as the frontrunner at 2/1 on.

Botswana – a close second at 4/1 – is also a place the Duke loves and knows well, and he reportedly took his fiancee to the southern African country in 2017 to celebrate her 36th birthday.

Tanzania is at 5/1, Seychelles and the Maldives tied on 6/1 or any Caribbean island at 8/1.

But Harry’s love of Africa makes the continent the most likely destination.

The duke is dedicated to Sentebale, the charity he co-founded in 2006 following his gap year in Lesotho in 2004. The organisation works with vulnerable children who have Aids or are HIV positive in Lesotho and Botswana, two nearby countries in the south of the African continent.

The organisation has helped thousands of children, and the Prince has also formed personal connections with many involved.

Prince Harry has such a soft spot for Botswana he calls it his second home. He gave Meghan a yellow gold ring that featured a contemporary three-stone design, which he created himself.

The ring boasts a centre stone from Botswana and two other diamonds from his mum’s personal collection. Princess Diana also had a special affection for the continent.

In 1997 she visited Angola and walked through a minefield and met with landmine victims at the Red Cross’s prosthetic clinic.

Her association with the Halo Trust helped galvanize public opinion against landmines.

His reaction was a nod to the hope they both have of becoming parents soon ROYAL INSIDER ON THE NEWLYWEDS’ DESIRE FOR BABY
