Royal wedding a gift to the nation

- Janet Davies, Falmouth, Cornwall

WE, the Brits, certainly know how to put on a show and on Saturday, with the sun shining and the streets of Windsor packed with smiling visitors from here and around the globe, the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle went off without a hitch. What was noticeable – and to be applauded – was the integration of people of different backgrounds who added so much to this very special occasion.

To me it was the best royal wedding I have witnessed. I thought Meghan’s mum looked rather alone at the service and the brilliantly narrated sermon by Bishop Michael Curry might have been a tad shorter, but that aside, it was a day to remember. Brian Davies, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk The marriage of Meghan and Harry was a truly wonderful event, not just because two people deeply in love were married, but because of the effect it had on the rest of the country. The TV coverage revealed the happiness and joy of the thousands who lined the streets and those who celebrated around the world, everyone wishing the couple love and happiness and enjoying the moment. What a pity we are not always able to be of one mind and pull together, without a politician in sight. No egos, no private crusades, just great joy as a couple in love were married. I noticed that George Clooney was a guest at the royal wedding. How cool is that, Batman at your wedding?

I was hoping Superman might fly in for a glass of champagne and a slice of cake, but I don’t think he was invited.

Then again Clark Kent is just a mild-mannered reporter, not a tycoon like Bruce Wayne.

I didn’t have much interest in the royal wedding to start with, but it turned out to be a fantastic day.

As for the brilliant American preacher Bishop Michael Curry, I thought he was going to do cartwheels down the aisle any moment. I ended up loving it!

Amid the disappointment of not having the bride’s father present, Prince Charles did a wonderful job at Harry and Meghan’s wedding.

It was very supportive of him to walk Meghan down the aisle and he was very thoughtful and attentive to Meghan’s mother, Doria, warmly taking her hand to walk in and sign the register. He did Harry proud. Well done, Charles. Diane Silva, Lytham, Lancs

My wife and I thought the royal wedding was superb. We really enjoyed watching and we wished that we could have been there. Harry and Meghan were charming and Meghan will be a great princess.

I think they will do a lot of good for this country. We wish them a long and happy life together. Mike and Ann Minchella, Scarborough, North Yorks Congratulations to Harry and Megan, I hope that they will be very happy in their marriage. It’s a shame Meghan’s dad couldn’t walk her down the aisle, or that another male member of the family couldn’t do it either. But Meghan looked stunning in a very simple wedding dress and they both looked very much in love. Diana would have been so proud.
