Butterfly back after 40 years
A BUTTERFLY extinct in England since 1976 is to return.
Chequered skippers are being released in Rockingham Forest, Northamptonshire, in a reintroduction scheme.
The species was killed off by changes to woodland management. The project by Butterfly Conservation and the Forestry Commission is part of the Back From The Brink scheme.
Dr Nigel Bourn, of Butterfly Conservation, said: “It is a privilege to help return this charismatic little butterfly.”
