‘Magpies kitman demanded sex favours for place in team’
AN ex-Newcastle United kitman accused of abusing 19 junior players told one: “If you say anything I will crush your dreams,” a court heard yesterday.
George Ormond, 62, faces allegations involving children as young as 11 dating from 1973 up to 1998.
Sharon Beattie, prosecuting, said Ormond insisted players wear no underpants with their shorts when playing for his teams in the city. He touched their genitals, masturbated in front of them and demanded sexual favours for a place on his teams. She told Newcastle crown court: “George Ormond used the position he had to sexually assault the complainants in this case.” Ormond, of Newton Abbott, Devon, denies 36 indecent assaults, one charge of indecency and one of serious sexual assault against 19 complainants.
