POP-UP Fred and the Finca team
BBC2, 9pm A group of serious-looking investors are sitting round a table debating the new food “concepts” on offer in this latest business show, where the carrot on the stick is money for a restaurant.
The concepts are Finca, a Cuban street-food brand, and Wholesome Junkies, which serves up “vegan junk food”.
One investor observes that vegan proponent Chelsea is “super enthusiastic” but that her “branding sucks”. Another wonders why none of the Finca cooks have a Cuban surname. “Are they authentic?” “Is the food Instagrammable?”
There’s obviously a lot to think about before the Dragons-style businessmen and women will part with their cash.
Finca founders Oli, Joe and Michael hope their pop-up will impress with their own Cuban food revolution. While Chelsea pins her hopes on her battered cauliflower burger called No Plucky Fried Chicken.
“Healthy junk veeegan food? Isn’t that a contradiction?” asks Fred Sirieix, a self-confessed meat-lover. If she can win him over, she’ll be halfway there.
