WE’LL BE FEARLESS

Emery insists he can put Gunners back on top and even challenge Man City for the title next season

UNAI EMERY says his Arsenal team can reel in Manchester City next season - as long as they are “fearless”. Arsenal, sixth last season, finished 37 points behind champions City yet Emery (left) believes they can be caught next term. The new Gunners boss, who has signed a three-year contract at the Emirates, said: “That is our objective, to catch City. It is about showing the stature of this club. “We should not fear any team, either here or in Europe, and our objective is to be among the best and to beat the best. “That is the kind of thing I want to transmit, that desire to be better. “I believe in the players here. The target is to challenge for the title. It is very important after two years outside the Champions League to be the best team in the Premier League, and

also in the world.” The 46-year-old former Sevilla boss will be given £50million to spend in the summer and can generate extra cash by selling players. Emery said: “We will have time to speak about where we need to improve, but we have got a strong nucleus. “I’m the type of coach who has always worked really hard, not because I do it better than anyone else but because that is what I believe the most important thing is.” Emery promised to improve his English, although he impressed fans and the media by insisting on conducting his main press conference in the language. “My English is not very good now but I want to make an effort to speak to you, to the supporters, to explain my ideas, to explain my ambitions,” he added.
