United in talks over £75M Alderweireld

TOTTENHAM have opened negotiations with Manchester United for £75million-rated Toby Alderweireld. Jose Mourinho is known to have targeted the Belgium

defender (left) as part of his defensive revamp at Old Trafford this summer.

Alderweireld, 29, is out of contract in 2020, but has failed to reach agreement with Spurs over a

new deal. Next summer he will be able to leave for just £22m because of a clause in his contract.

It means Tottenham are willing to listen to offers for him in this window. It was initially believed the club would accept around £55m for the centre-back.

But Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is believed to be seeking closer to the £75m paid by Liverpool for Virgil van Dijk in January.

Mousa Dembele, 31 in July, is also set to leave Tottenham this summer. The midfielder’s agent, Tom De Mul, has confirmed he is entertaining offers with just a year left on his contract.
