I’m the pensioner who thought Sir Anthony Hopkins was a tramp
THIS is the passer-by who mistook Sir Anthony Hopkins for a homeless man as he filmed a TV version of King Lear.
Great-gran Edwina Grealy, 84, was going into town on her mobility scooter when she spotted a group of scruffy looking men including Sir Anthony, 80.
The retired aviation worker asked him: “Are you homeless?” And he said: “We’re all homeless.” She then directed him to a shelter, telling him: “It’s got nice beds.” The Oscar-winning actor then revealed his true identity and posed with her for snaps taken by King Lear co-star Emma Thompson.
Director Richard Eyre told last week how the actor fooled a passer-by as they filmed in Stevenage, Herts.
Edwina said: “He looked the part. It was lovely to meet him. He was very down to earth.” She will be watching King Lear on BBC2, Monday at 9.30pm.
