Latest diet ... don’t eat solid food for 8 weeks
MILLIONS of Britons should be told to stop eating solid food for eight weeks, experts claim.
Obese people should be prescribed nutrition shakes by their GPs to help them break a lifetime of bad eating habits, researchers say.
Former government obesity tsar Dr Susan Jebb told the European Congress on Obesity in Vienna said: “It works... Losing a lot of weight is very motivating.”
A study into Total Diet Replacement followed patients for a year. They lost 10.7kg, or 1st 10lb, on average, having shakes and soup but no solids.
Co-author Dr Nerys Astbury, of Oxford University, said: “People reported that they didn’t feel hungry.”
Dr Jebb’s team is analysing data before a final decision on whether TDR should be rolled out.
