Wolfpack can’t feast on history
TORONTO half-back Ryan Brierley insists he and his team-mates are reading nothing into their opening-day Championship win at rivals Leigh ahead of their much-anticipated rematch today. The table-topping Wolfpack have a host of former Centurions in their ranks, including Brierley and coach Paul Rowley, and won 34-12 when the sides met in February. But Leigh are on a 10-match winning run under new boss Kieron Purtill (below) going into
today’s Summer Bash meeting at Blackpool FC’s Bloomfield Road stadium.
Brierley said: “It seems like a lifetime ago now, the first match of the season, and while we like to think we’ve improved since then they certainly have.
“They didn’t start the season as they would like to have, but they’re really hitting their straps at the moment and alongside us they’re probably the form side in the competition.
“Kieron Purtill is doing a great job and seems to have got the players playing for him.
“If you look at their squad it’s the best in this competition by far.
“I said at the start of the season that I thought this squad was a lot better than the one they had in Super League.
“It should be a cracker for both sets of fans.”
