Police shoot ‘armed man’ in a taxi cab

-

POLICE shot a suspected gunman in a taxi yesterday – after warning him six times to get out.

The armed officers had surrounded the vehicle following a tip-off and the cabbie managed to flee.

One fired through the taxi window and the man was dragged out, hit in the arm or side of his body.

He was taken to hospital from Bishop Aukland, Co Durham, at around 11am.

The man had been seen earlier dropping a gun and tucking it into his jeans.

“Police shouted ‘Get out!’ about six times,” said a passer-by. “Then one said ‘If you don’t, you’ll be shot.’ Seconds later, ‘bang’.”

A probe was launched.
