Farmers beg PM for migrant staff
FARMERS have urged Theresa May to ensure they can keep hiring overseas workers after Brexit.
She was urged to publish an immigration white paper setting out her plans as soon as possible.
The demand that was sent to the PM is in a manifesto by 100 key players including leaders of the National Farmers’ Union and the Food and Drink Federation.
NFU president Minette Batters said food and farming sectors were worth at least £112billion to the UK.
Issues raised include maintaining “frictionless” trade with the EU by preserving trade deals struck by Brussels – or at least until “acceptable alternatives” are secured.
The document warned that “many businesses are experiencing difficulties in recruiting staff from the UK”.
