‘Exercise for young heart’

THE secret to a long life could be working out up to five times a week.

Scientists say it can keep arteries healthy by limiting stiffening – and it may even reverse the ageing process.

The US study focused on people aged over 60 to find the optimal amount of exercise to keep “young”.

Prof Benjamin Levine, of the Institute for Exercise and Environmen­tal Medicine, said the findings could help develop fitness regimes to “turn back time on older hearts”.
