Christie drama is iPlayer fave

-

The BBC’s delayed adaptation of Ordeal By Innocence was the most watched programme on iPlayer last month.

The Agatha Christie drama, which was put on hold to be reshot after its original star Ed Westwick was accused of sexual assault, had almost two million requests for its first episode on the catch-up service across the month.

The programme was pulled from the Christmas schedule and British actor Christian Cooke replaced Westwick in reshoots after the allegations, which the Gossip Girl actor has denied.

EastEnders also did well on iPlayer with 12 of its episodes in the top 20 most-viewed programmes. This is good news for them because, compared to ITV soaps, its overnight ratings are

getting worse.

Playing a strong female character in a drama written by a female feels like an incredibly fortunate and strong place to be. I feel like I am at the forefront of this wave of a new era, which I hope is going to come and which will hopefully include better roles for women, more women writers, more women directors, and generally more creative opportunities for women.
