Today’s photo from the archives shows stage and screen icon Tommy Steele relaxing on the banks of the River Thames near Hampton Court. A former merchant seaman, Steele topped the charts with Singing the Blues in 1957. Billed as Britain’s answer to Elvis, he was the UK’s first teen idol and appeared in numerous films and stage productions in the 1950s and 60s.
