EAGLES BOSS’ ‘NO,NO’,NO’TO WOMANISING AT WORLD CUP
NIGERIA coach Gernot Rohr has banned his players from womanising during their stay at the World Cup.
Rohr plans to let wives and girlfriend into the training base but has drawn the line at players hooking up with local women.
German-born Rohr said: “Yes, the players can have wives and family visit them. Each player will have a room to himself so the family can come on days when we are not preparing for games or on match days.
“However, I won’t allow them to have Russian girls, no, no, no. Only our captain [John Obi] Mikel who has a Russian partner can come with her.”
Rohr has a reputation as a disciplinarian and Nigerian press reports claim the ban is aimed at “run girls”, which is slang for prostitutes.
There is however likely to be a strict embargo on all partying, with Rohr promising a thoroughly professional approach.
The clampdown comes after the Super Eagles’ last World Cup fell apart because of discipline problems and a bitter pay dispute. HARRY KANE is already justifying his appointment as skipper – by insisting England can lift the World Cup.
Boss Gareth Southgate said: “One of the reasons I made him captain was he has tremendous belief and wants to aim for the very top. We have to have that mentality as a team.
“Why should I limit what the guys think is possible?
“He has always had that focus and always had that desire.
“That’s a mind-set we should embrace.”
