‘Third runway for Poldark payday in Cornwall’
CHINESE and American tourists could bring Cornwall a Poldarkinspired bonanza if a third runway at Heathrow gets the go-ahead, airport chiefs claim today.
They say it would allow more internal flight links to places such as Newquay, Dundee and Liverpool and steer tourists from London.
Bosses are drumming up support ahead of a Commons vote later this year. Cornwall Airport Newquay said it could bring in 20,000 more people, spending £9million. Boss Al Titterington said it would “change the passenger profile significantly”.
He said: “It would open it up to visitors from markets like China, America and Germany. One key thing now is the export of Poldark, – that scenery, those beaches.”
Critics of Heathrow expansion fear air pollution, noise disturbance and demolition of homes.
