England Kane-d by Belgium
ENGLAND’S football stars got an ominous foretaste of a cruel summer when their darts counterparts were knocked out of the World Cup... by Belgium.
World champion Rob Cross and Dave Chisnall went down 2-1 in the quarter-finals against Kim Huybrechts and Dimitri van den Bergh in Frankfurt.
The football team will hope for a happier outcome when Harry Kane and Co face Belgium in their World Cup group in Kaliningrad on June 28.
England had won the Betway World Cup of Darts four times in five years when Phil Taylor and Adrian Lewis were flying the flag.
And they looked on course for at least the semi-finals when Cross averaged an impressive 107.48 to draw first blood 4-2 against Huybrechts.
But rising star Van den Bergh pipped Chisnall 4-3 to force a decider in the bestof-three tie, and the Belgians romped to a 4-0 whitewash in the pairs.
Huybrechts said: “That was one of my best feelings in darts. I love playing alongside Dimitri, he is a future world champion.”
In the final, Holland beat Scotland 3-1.
