TOMKINS IS BANNED FOR ‘DISGUSTING’ BAR ABUSE
JOEL TOMKINS’ Wigan career is hanging in the balance over a “disgusting” video which shows him abusing bar staff.
The Warriors last night handed the back-rower a four-week suspension and a £10,000 fine, while brother Sam, who was also present, was fined £5,000.
Wigan will now conduct a full
investigation into the matter and consider Joel’s future.
Footage of the incident, which took place in Standish, Wigan, five weeks ago, was posted on social media and has now gone viral.
Warriors executive director Kris Radlinski said: “I was pretty disgusted at the video I saw on Saturday evening.
“To see two of our high-profile senior players behave in such a way disappointed me greatly.
“They aren’t just role models for the young kids in the town, they’re role models for the younger players in the squad.
“All players are allowed periods of downtime, but they know to act responsibly”.
Joel, 31, who also played for Saracens and England at union, and Sam were in the Wigan side which lost 23-0 to Warrington on Saturday.
