So it’s Brexitears before bedtime...

-

THERESA May should have the courage to sack arch Brexiteers Johnson, Gove and Davis from the Cabinet and send them to the backbenches. If they threaten to overthrow her, she should call their bluff and say she will hold another snap general election.

See how they cope with the prospect of losing their seats – at the very least we can get rid of the whole sorry lot of them from the front benches. As for that relic Rees-Mogg, he should be consigned to the history books.

It is plain for all to see that the Tories are in disarray and Brexit will be an absolute disaster for this country.

I’d love to say I was surprised to see that Nigel Lawson has applied for French citizenship as the country hurtles towards Brexit. After years of telling us so many of our problems started because of Europe, he now runs there himself when the going gets tough. He isn’t the only one – Farage is making sure he’s protecting his family by getting them German passports before we leave. So, after gnawing the ship until it sank, now the rats are fleeing it.

Tory Brexiteers, such as Boris Johnson and Jacob Rees-Mogg, say the will of the people is being ignored if we remain part of the customs union after leaving the EU. The fact is, the people were conned into voting for Brexit with lies suggesting the money saved would go towards the NHS.

There was never any intention of this happening. Therefore, in my view, there should be another referendum, but the Government doesn’t want one because people realise they were misled.

RP Smith, Brighton

It seems that the referendum result to leave the EU is being ignored. There’s money to be had at the expense of us plebs and we must not get in the way. David Cameron told us in 2010 there would be a referendum on the terms of our membership of the EU, and six years later he made good on his promise.

So why are people now saying they didn’t have enough time to research the pros and cons?

A vote, whether you like the result or not, should be honoured.

D O’Connor Burnham-on-Crouch, Essex

The Prime Minister should go back to the country and ask us what we want. The terms of the UK leaving the EU must be agreed by us, the people and the taxpayers of this country – not by the likes of Mrs May, Liam Fox or Boris Johnson.

Pete Mansfield Stoneleigh, Surrey

It is becoming apparent that Theresa May is moving to sell us out on free movement of EU citizens after Brexit.

This was a very strong reason for me, and millions of others, to vote to leave.

If this government can’t see what’s happening in our country, then someone needs to take the blinkers off. It really is time to get rid of this powerhappy ‘syndicate’. Grahame Champ, Cardiff
