Javid: Tories are not anti-Muslim
SAJID Javid has dismissed claims of Tory Islamophobia – saying his appointment as Home Secretary proves there is no problem.
Mr Javid, who is not a practising Muslim, was hitting back at ex-Tory chairwoman Baroness Warsi’s claims of a “simmering anti-Muslim underbelly” within the party.
It comes after the Muslim Council of Britain wrote to Tory chairman Brandon Lewis calling for an investigation into anti-Muslim discrimination in the party.
But Mr Javid told BBC1’s The Andrew Marr Show yesterday: “I’d be very suspicious of anything that they say.
“Too many of their members have had favourable comments on extremists.”
