QUEEN BACK IN THE HUNT

-

SENIORITY will bid to give the Queen a 24th Royal Ascot victory after making today’s Royal Hunt Cup via the reserve system.

Wahash and Seniority’s stablemate Mubtasim came out of the onemile cavalry charge, allowing the William Haggas four-year-old — 12-1 after two wins at Chelmsford this year — in the contest at the bottom of the weights.

“This race was his objective in that we thought he was a horse who would like a fast pace on fast ground over a mile,” said the Queen’s racing manager John Warren.

“The race has the right profile for him and we’re hopeful he’s going to run a really nice race.”

ASCOT chiefs declared it “so far, so good” after a trouble-free first day of Royal Ascot 2018.

Armed police, sniffer dogs and breathalysers were used to ensure antisocial behaviour was kept to a minimum.

“We welcomed 46,000 people here today and from what I can see everyone has had an enjoyable day,” said Ascot’s chief executive Guy Henderson.
