Elderly feeling Poldark effect

CORNWALL-based Poldark has sparked a retirement homes boom in the region.

Every time a series of the hit BBC series, featuring Aidan Turner, screens there is a spike in sales and rentals of the properties, according to industry chiefs.

Many of those moving there come from expensive, overcrowded cities and suburbs – particularly London and the Home Counties. Retirement specialists Girlings said the “Poldark effect” has been going on for the past three years.

Chief executive Gillian Girling said: “Since Poldark was first screened more people have been enquiring about our retirement rental properties in Cornwall.”
