FOR two years EU nationals in this country have been living in limbo.

Finally, the Government has set out how they can apply to stay in the UK after Brexit.

This is a welcome move and we hope it is quickly reciprocated so British nationals living in the EU also get clarity about their status.

Home Secretary Sajid Javid promises the application system will be simple and quick.

We wish we could share his breezy confidence, especially given the recent Windrush scandal. Dealing with the Home Office can be tortuous and bureaucratic.

It is now being charged with having to handle the applications of three million people.

Mr Javid should remember what happened to his predecessor the last time his department let people down.
