Chester so five-alive after rout

- BY TREVOR BAXTER

CHRIS CHESTER is targeting the top five after Wakefield’s eighttry demolition of bottom club Vikings.

Widnes have lost 11 successive Super League games – the worst league run in their history while Trinity are sixth, four points clear of ninthplaced Catalans.

“We are two points of fifth which is where we are looking,” said head coach Chester. “We are not looking at Catalans, Leeds or Huddersfield – the teams below us.”

Loose forward James Batchelor scored a try and kicked five goals while centres Bill Tupou and Reece Lyne (above) grabbed four of Trinity’s touchdowns.

Widnes, without a Super League success since March 22, notched all their points in the second period with tries from Stefan Marsh, Danny Walker, Alex Gerrard and Ryan Ince.

“Wakefield were good but we gave them some leg-ups,” admitted Widnes interim boss Francis Cummins, whose side seem set for another battle in the Qualifiers to try and stay up.
