MICHAEL JACKSON: Thriller (1983)
Voted the most influential pop video of all time, Thriller raised the bar for all who came after. The 14-minute horror flick combined top-class movie-making with a 1980s mega-hit.
Jackson hired director John Landis after seeing his film American Werewolf in London. Jacko is turned into a zombie, and the coloured contact lenses and the spine-tingling demonic laughter scared the bejesus out of us when it debuted here, late-night, on Channel 4.
Thriller was the first, and only, music video selected by America’s prestigious National Film Registry, which picks culturally important films for preservation.
