Lookalikes C4 comedy night won’t fall Flats…

- RODENT

There was a bit of a David Brent theme to Channel 4’s new Wednesday comedy hour last night. Spoof fly-on-the-wall Lookalikes came back silly as ever, with the David Brent lookalike setting up a rival agency to his old boss, the David Beckham lookalike.

Before that, we were introduced to Stath Lets Flats, a new sitcom which could easily have featured David Brent if Brent had decided to work in property rather than paper, and had been a twenty-something Greek Cypriot called Stath.

I say introduced, but Stath has actually been around since 2013, when he appeared in one of Channel 4’s comedy shorts.

He is played by Jamie Demetriou, who you may recognise as Bus Rodent, one of the eponymous Fleabag’s many boyfriends in BBC3’s award-winning comedy.

Demetriou was also responsible for one of my top-five inhabitants in Murder In Successful.

He played a brilliantly random version of One Direction’s Zayn Malik, who liked to hang around in bars listening to conversations in the hope of picking up cool phrases that he could one day use himself.

The first episode of Stath Lets Flats mainly consisted of Stath showing clients around flats, so if you haven’t had much experience of that particular life chore you might not have found it that funny.

There was plenty of promise back at the office, though, not least in the character of Carole.

Carole is Stath’s bitter rival and Katy Wix, who plays her, appears to have imagined what Gemma Collins would be like if she were a contestant on The Apprentice. In other words, she’s horrifically funny.
