BBC’s antique ideas show
Bosses announce another buy it & sell it programme
THE BBC has unveiled yet another daytime antiques show.
It leaves the Corporation open to accusations it has dusted off an old idea and shined it up as though it’s new.
Each episode of Make Me a Dealer will feature two people competing against each other to buy stuff at auction and sell it for the highest price.
It is a similar premise to BBC daytime hit Bargain Hunt. Make Me a Dealer is hosted by Paul Martin, who also presents Beeb show Flog It!, featuring people having their antiques valued by experts then given the option to sell at auction.
The BBC Trust criticised the Corpora- tion in 2010 for having too many antiques programmes. And in 2016 a Government white paper hit out at the over-reliance on long-running collectables shows.
The BBC insists Make Me a Dealer is different as competitors use their own cash and are given tips by Paul, 59. A source added: “There is much distinctiveness across the BBC daytime schedule which includes very popular antique formats.” Other shows announced yesterday include Operation NHS Fraud, looking at those trying to rip off the health service.
