Blaze lessons

-

WHILE you enjoy the glorious June sunshine, spare a thought for those tackling the blaze on Saddleworth Moor.

This is a fire on an unprecedented scale that threatens lasting environmental damage.

Hundreds have been evacuated from their homes yet, thanks to the dedication of the emergency services, no lives have been lost.

The blaze is proof that the UK is not immune from the consequences of global warming.

Wild fires on this scale are commonplace in California, France and Spain. With rising temperatures, there is a risk of more here.

That makes it essential anyone enjoying our countryside follows rules regarding campfires, barbecues and discarding cigarette butts.
