Cheese race ace dies at 49

ONE of cheese-rolling’s greatest champions has died of cancer aged 49.

Steve Brain won 19 titles racing an 8lb Double Gloucester down Cooper’s Hill, Glos, in the 1990s. The record is 21.

Builder Steve also played 200 times for Matson rugby club in Gloucester.

Teammates said he was “hard as nails” and “never took a backward step”.
