Paramedic: I made mistakes as young mum died in court
A PARAMEDIC fought back tears at an inquest as he admitted mistakes during a young mum’s fatal cardiac arrest.
Mum-of-four Hayley Gascoigne, 32, collapsed during a break in a family court hearing in Hull last January.
Paramedic Gary Long, 60, was the first responder on the scene but continued to walk as family shouted at him to hurry.
Mr Long, now retired, yesterday admitted tearfully he had “made mistakes” but said he believed the report into his actions was “biased”. He was criticised for not taking cardiac equipment and drugs into the court and appearing “fazed”. He told the Hull inquest he was told Ms Gascoigne was fitting. The official cause of death was given as “failure of the left ventricular [of the heart] due to the hypertensive heart disease”. The hearing continues.
