The Supreme Court has final say over federal and state court cases and is generally the interpreter of federal law including the constitution. The court first assembled in 1790. It consists of nine justices – one chief and eight associates. Candidates, nominated by the President, must get Senate approval. All serve for life unless removed by Congress for abuses of office. So far, this has never happened.
