Britain sizzles as footballers feel the heat

ENGLAND’S clash with Belgium came on the hottest day of the year – and there is no sign of the weather dampening our World Cup fever.

As Gareth Southgate’s men marched on to the knockout stage of the tournament, the Met Office forecast that the sizzling summer is set to continue.

Sales of beer, wine and food are set to boom over the weekend as people stock up in anticipation of England’s next match.

Brits enjoyed the hottest day of the year for the fourth day in a row yesterday as the mercury soared to 32.6C in Porthmadog in Wales.

The warm weather is set to continue over the weekend and into next week, with temperatures staying in the mid to high 20s.

The Met Office said this is the first time in five years that temperatures have hit 30C in all four UK nations.

Meteorologist Bonnie Diamond said: “Last year England had five days over 30C, but what makes this current spell different is that it’s nationwide.”
