Bigamist wed again to save cash splashed on reception
A BIGAMIST went ahead with an unlawful wedding as he didn’t want to lose the money he had spent on it.
Carpenter Paul Phibbs, 48, had been estranged from first wife Kim Hee Jung for 15 years when he and Kerry Hudson decided to get married, a court heard.
He began divorce proceedings and they booked their big day. But the decree absolute had not been issued. Selina Goddard told Poole magistrates: “It was his understanding proceedings were pretty much through. They put down a lot of money, so decided to press ahead.” But the divorce from Kim was not finalised until two years later. The illegal marriage came to light after Phibbs and Kerry split. Phibbs, of Christchurch, Dorset, admitted bigamy. He got a 12-month order with 100 hours’ unpaid work.
