O’Brien: Sax tuned for Derby

- BY DAVID YATES

AIDAN O’BRIEN expects a fightback from Saxon Warrior in the Irish Derby at the Curragh today. The 2,000 Guineas hero, who lost his unbeaten record when fourth to Masar in the Investec Derby four weeks ago, is Betfair’s 5-6 favourite to make amends. “He was a bit babyish at Epsom and he should have learned a lot,” said O’Brien (below). “The Curragh is probably the fairest track in the world.” But Dee Ex Bee finished ahead of Saxon Warrior when second at Epsom, and his trainer Mark Johnston said: “We are the one who finished in front, and we are the one who is guaranteed to stay.” O’Brien’s Oaks winner Forever Together faces five rivals tomorrow as she steps back to a mile and a quarter for the Group 1 Juddmonte Pretty Polly Stakes (4.40).
