MARIA SHARAPOVA suffered a nightmare return to Wimbledon when she was stunned by qualifier Vitalia Diatchenko.

Sharapova (right) was making her first appearance at SW19 since 2015 due to her doping ban and injury.

The 2004 champion went a set and 5-2 up in the second. But fellow Russian Diatchenko recovered to win 6-7 7-6 6-4.

Favourite Petra Kvitova claimed she was beaten by nerves as she crashed out to world No.50 Aliaksandra Sasnovich of Belarus, 6-4 4-6 6-0.

“The nerves were there again,” said the Czech. “I’m probably the biggest opponent I have.”
