20yrs’ jail for footie paedo
A PAEDOPHILE who preyed on boy footballers over three decades was jailed for 20 years.
George Ormond, 62, who targeted players as young as 11, was blasted as “wholly preoccupied with sex” by Judge Edward Bindloss.
At Newcastle crown court he praised his victims, mainly in their 50s, who gave moving evidence with “calm dignity”.
Ormond, of Newton Abbot, Devon, worked with young players at Newcastle United in the 1990s and had coached a prominent youth team in the city the 70s and 80s.
