Not Russian to help now

-

AS England get closer to the World Cup final there’s plenty of optimistic talk about this year being a repeat of 1966. Far be it for me to rain on the nation’s parade, but one of the main factors in England beating West Germany at Wembley back then was the role played by the very friendly Russian linesman who ruled Geoff Hurst’s shot had crossed the line. Somehow, the way things are between Moscow and London, I think we can forget about that kind of help this time.
