KARIUS STILL KLOPP’S No.1

- BY DAVID MADDOCK

JURGEN KLOPP is ready to stand by calamity keeper Loris Karius.

The Liverpool boss is prepared to back the Champions League fall

guy even though fans have been calling for his head since his nightmare in Kiev.

Klopp takes his squad to Chester on Saturday for the first game of the summer with Karius pencilled in to start – new signings Naby Keita and Fabinho are also expected to be given a run-out.

Klopp is aware Kopites are not prepared to forgive Karius for his meltdown in the Champions League final but he insists there is no keeper currently available who he rates higher. Liverpool have been priced out of a move for Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak and Roma’s Brazilian No.1 Alisson.

The Reds have also been linked with Barcelona’s Jasper Cillessen, Leicester’s Kasper Schmeichel, Jiri Pavlenka of Werder Bremen, and Thomas Strakosha of Lazio, but Klopp says he has zero interest in any of them.
